About Enigma Rooms

Enigma Rooms began in Doncaster in April 2016 with two escape rooms. Today, the Enigma Rooms brand welcomes guests at five venues across Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire: Doncaster, Hull, Pontefract, Retford and Wakefield.

Each venue has its own mix of stories and experiences, but the aim is consistent: give groups a clear adventure, a fair challenge and a memorable hour together.

Five Enigma Rooms venues
Doncaster – escape rooms plus selected group activities including interactive axe throwing, interactive darts and magical experiences at The Twisted Broom.
Hull – three themed escape rooms in Princes Quay, with published wheelchair guidance for selected games.
Pontefract – fantasy, mystery and pirate-themed adventures.
Retford – escape rooms alongside Oche Club interactive darts.
Wakefield – fantasy, mystery and creepy room choices, plus selected online games.

What happens at an Enigma escape room?

A team of two to six guests enters a themed experience and has 60 minutes to work through clues, puzzles and story moments. Staff provide a briefing before the game and can give hints if a team needs help. Guests are not expected to arrive with specialist knowledge, and they can leave a room if necessary.

New players can read our first-visit guide, while the room-choice guide compares themes, difficulty and suitability.

Experiences for different groups

Enigma welcomes first-time players, experienced enthusiasts, families, couples, birthdays, friendship groups and workplace teams. These guides help with the practical planning:

Family escape rooms
Team building
Birthday parties
Date nights
Large groups

Accessibility and choosing responsibly

Access varies by building and by individual game. Some experiences include steps, darkness, flashing lights, actors, crouching or physical elements; others have published wheelchair guidance. We do not make one blanket accessibility claim for every venue. Read the accessibility guide and contact the team before booking if anyone has mobility, sensory or other requirements.

Clear, current venue information

Enigma’s public website is organised around one shared brand and five venue hubs. Activities, access, age guidance and availability can differ between those venues, so this website links guests to the relevant local page rather than implying that every experience is available everywhere.
