Which Escape Room Should I Choose?

Compare themes, intensity, group needs and accessibility

How to Choose the Right Adventure

Choosing an escape room is easier when you start with the people in your group rather than a difficulty number. Think about the theme you will enjoy, the intensity everyone is comfortable with, whether anyone is new, and any age or access needs. Enigma currently has five venues: Doncaster, Hull, Pontefract, Retford and Wakefield, across Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire.

Five quick questions before you choose

  1. Which venue is practical for everyone?
  2. Do you want fantasy, adventure, mystery, science fiction or a creepy atmosphere?
  3. Is anyone playing for the first time?
  4. Are there children, age restrictions or intensity concerns to check?
  5. Does anyone need step-free, wheelchair, mobility or sensory guidance?

Room Recommendations by Group and Play Style

Don’t Get Caught Up in Ratings

Difficulty scores are useful as a rough comparison, but they are not a promise of how your team will perform. Different groups notice different things, and a theme that holds everyone’s attention can be a better choice than simply picking the highest number.

Use the individual room page for the current difficulty, age, intensity and access notes, then choose the story your group is most excited to enter.

Does Group Size Matter?

Enigma escape rooms are designed for two to six guests. A pair can take on the full experience, while a larger team has more eyes and ideas—but also more information to organise.

Groups of more than six must split across rooms, subject to availability. See the large-group guide or team-building guide for planning help.

First-timer picks

These are useful starting points, but always read the room page before booking:

Challenge picks

Choose these when the group actively wants a more demanding experience:

Family-friendly picks

These story themes can work well for mixed-age groups. Check current age and intensity guidance for the exact game:

Creepy and intense picks

Creepy does not automatically mean a live actor. Read each room page for darkness, jump-scare, actor and age warnings:

Traditional locks and searching

If your group enjoys a more traditional escape-room feel with physical locks and searching, compare:

Technology and interactive puzzles

Prefer sensors, buttons and interactive elements? These rooms blend technology with other puzzle styles:

Still unsure?

Choose the room whose story excites the whole group, then confirm the age, intensity and accessibility details on its individual page. You can also browse the complete directory, read what to expect on a first visit, or check the FAQ.
