An escape room is a fully immersive, themed experience where you and your team are given a challenge—solve a series of puzzles and find clues to achieve your goal, all within a set time limit (usually 60 minutes). It’s not always about “escaping” in the literal sense. Sometimes you’re collecting evidence (Mafia), finding hidden treasure (Arabian Nights), or saving the world from disaster (Outbreak).
At Enigma Rooms, we offer a huge variety of themes—from creepy hospital morgues like Ward 13 in Doncaster, to family favourites like Escape the Chocolate Factory in Hull. Whether you’re unlocking secrets in a Munchkinland or racing to save your spaceship from disaster, every game is packed with excitement.
Let’s get this cleared up right away: no, you are never physically locked in. This is a big worry for a lot of first-timers, especially those with claustrophobia. Around 10% of the UK population experiences some level of claustrophobia, so it’s an understandable concern. At Enigma Rooms, all our games either have an unlocked door or a clear, easily accessible “push to exit” button. You’re in control the entire time. Hopefully this will put those of you with some nervous jitters at ease and will help you relax into enjoying a fun experience with your friends or family.
Another common question! At Enigma Rooms, the only people in the room are you and your team. We don’t add strangers to your booking, and unless clearly specified, there are no live actors involved. The only exception is our Wakefield-based horror game Séance, which includes an actor for an extra thrill. Everything else? Just you, your friends or family, and the puzzle-solving fun. Some themes are creepy, and do a great job at building up tension, but unless you book Séance, you wont come across anyone else in our rooms.
Yes—escape rooms are fantastic for families! Many of our games are family-friendly and suitable for kids (typically aged 8+ with adult supervision). It’s the perfect alternative to the usual family activities. You’ll work together, laugh a lot, and see how well your team do under pressure. It’s also a great way to boost problem-solving and creative thinking skills for younger players.
Escape rooms are designed to challenge—but also to entertain. Every person brings different strengths to the table, so what one person finds difficult, another might breeze through. That’s the beauty of it. All of our rooms feature a built-in clue system, so if you’re stuck, you can always get a gentle nudge in the right direction.
Typically, we see teams spend the first 5–10 minutes getting their bearings—searching the room, spotting patterns, and figuring out where to begin. Then it snowballs: once you solve one puzzle, your brain gets into gear and you start spotting connections faster.
